Our wonderful friend, Amelia Adrian, is about to start teaching yoga for us as part of the Just Dance UK timetable so we thought this would be a good opportunity to introduce her to those of you who haven’t yet had a chance to meet her. Amongst other things, Amelia is an actor, drama teacher, yoga instructor, mum and incredible cake-maker (you’ll have to trust us on that last one!).
How long have you been practising yoga for?
What made you decide to get yourself to that first yoga class?
It was a form of hot yoga and my friend said it was a great way to workout. I was home raising young kids and looking for a way to motivate myself through exercise.
What did you find to be the most daunting part of that class?
The poses seemed really hard and I was concerned with “doing it right”. So funny as there isn’t a "right way" in Yoga. That is what is so beautiful about it. It meets you exactly where you are.
What encouraged you to keep going back?
Each week I could feel myself improving as the poses became more familiar. And then that lovely yoga buzz you get in and after class.
If we were to call your best friend, what would they say is your best personality trait?
If we were to call that same best friend, what would they say is your worst personality trait?
Perfectionism. We are where we are and that's okay ...not some dream of perfection of how we should be. I always have to remind myself to stop from falling into that perfectionist trap. It's a daily practice for me to look for adventure rather than perfection!
Favourite song/artist to dance around your living room to?
Happy by Pharrell Williams
If we could magically transport you anywhere in the world right now, where would you go and what would you be doing?
Costa Rica on a yoga retreat with my teacher Elena Brower
Give us one tip that you regularly use to help you juggle work, family and all things social?
Breathe!! And listen to my Inner Guru not my Inner Critic. Again it's a daily practice for me.
If you would like to try one of Amelia’s yoga classes, please join us on Monday evenings (starting from Monday 18th April) 19:30-20:45 at Harris Girls’ Academy East Dulwich - full details can be found on our timetable page.
